Requiem for a dream
Acrylic on canvas, 72” ×36”
A monumental dramtic work from the Memoryscapes series. In this we see that the dreams of rural ideal, and indeed the innocence they represent, is mourned rather than celebrated — surrealist landscape painting in which the dream of a place outlasts any accurate account of it having been distorted by the pains of recollection. The title as thesis: rural landscape subjected to the reliable distortions of recollection — color too charged, form slightly wrong, the whole thing more emotionally true than factually accurate. Acrylic painting by Matthew Holloway.
